Castle Solitaire

Castle Solitaire and Beleaguered Castle

Castle Solitaire is an easier version of Beleaguered Castle Solitaire. The primary difference between the two versions is that in Castle Solitaire, the player can build the card piles up or down, but in Beleaguered Castle the player may only build the piles down. Both games are similar to Fortress Solitaire, but have less piles, and the player starts out with four aces dealt into the foundations. You can switch to Beleaguered Castle in the settings menu.

Beleaguered Castle

Beleaguered Castle is similar to Fortress Solitaire, but is significantly more challenging. There are only 8 piles of cards in Beleaguered Castle Solitaire, and each foundation starts out with an ace already in it. Also, the player may only build cards down in the piles instead of down or up. This means planning is critical to winning the game.

How to play Beleaguered Castle

Beleaguered Castle begins by dealing the four aces to the four foundations in the center of the game area. To the right and left of each foundation is a pile of 6 cards, for a total of 8 piles with 6 cards each. Only the top card in each of these piles may be moved between the piles or to the foundations. The piles are built down from King to Ace regardless of suit, and the foundations are built up from Ace to King by suit. A good strategy is to begin by planning out a way to clear out all the cards in a pile. The game will get progressively easier as piles have been eliminated because you can place any card on an empty pile.
